Standardly, processing an EORI number takes 5–10 working days from submission of a complete application. The timeframe depends on the workload of the customs administration and the completeness of the supplied documents.
To process an EORI number, you need a valid ID card or passport, tax ID number and VAT number, an extract from the business register (for legal entities), and access to a data mailbox. If you don't have a data mailbox, we'll help you set one up.
You need an EORI number for all customs operations – import of goods from countries outside the EU (China, USA, UK after Brexit), export to third countries, customs declarations, and communication with customs authorities. Without an EORI, no shipment can be cleared through customs.
A Czech EORI number has the format CZ + tax ID number (e.g. CZ12345678). For natural persons without a tax ID number, a birth number is used. An EORI is valid throughout the EU and serves to uniquely identify an economic operator.
Yes, an EORI number issued by any EU member state is valid throughout the European Union. Therefore, you only need one EORI number for customs procedures in all EU countries.
